Is Red-Gate SQL Backup licensed differently on a Hyper-V server configuration versus multiple instances on a single Windows 2003 instance?

    Hi,

You need a license for each 'machine' that is running one or more SQL Server instances.

If your '5 SQL Servers' are all running on the same 'machine', you need 1 license.

If your '5 SQL Servers' are running on 5 different 'machines', you need 5 licenses, one each for the 5 'machines'.

'Machine' refers to a distinct system running a Windows operating system. E.g. if your '5 SQL Servers' are running on the same physical box, but are running on 5 separate virtual machines, this means you need 5 licenses (I hope that makes sense).

    I hope this helps.
