BackupIoRequest::ReportIoError

I am testing SQLBackup 8.0.3.425, and am seeing some backups fail with this error: BackupIoRequest::ReportIoError: write failure on backup device 'SQLBACKUP_37F500BD-743C-4C5F-B467-6BBDF4D6DD1003'. Operating system error 995(The I/O operation has been aborted because of either a thread exit or an application request.).

Internet search returns information about VDI issues, but they all go back to 2009 and before. Some reference a Microsoft SQL Server Backup Simulation tool to use for testing, but all the links are dead. Native backups work fine. Do you have any suggestions

Running SQL Server 2008 R2 on Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard edition on a VMware VM. 6 cores, 8GB of memory.

    Could you please post the complete contents of the log for the backup that failed? One way to do this is to select the failed backup in the GUI, right click to bring up the context menu, and select the 'Show log' item. Thanks.
