Redgate Backup and MS Log Shipping

Hi chaps,

we use native Microsoft technologies for both full backups and Log Shipping, however we want to move to using SQL Backup 7 for the full backups. Can we continue to use the native Microsoft Log Shipping and be able to restore these logs to the RedGate backup, or will we have to take copy only backups of the log using SQL Backup 7? Or, will we have to use the RedGate Log Shipping tool?

Our preference is to continue using native Log Shipping and RedGate full backups.

Thanks.

Yes, you can restore native SQL Server transaction log backups onto a database backed up and restored using SQL Backup. The database you restore from a full database backup taken using SQL Backup is identical to a native SQL Server full database restore.

  • Brilliant thanks Petey. I thought this might be the case, but always best to check these things first, especially if you have no place to test this out first!
