Red Gate’s ANTS Profiler upgrade speeds
performance tuning for VS.NET 2005 applications

Red Gate doubles speed of “essential” performance profiler,
adds support for .NET Windows services and all versions of ASP.NET

CAMBRIDGE, England, May 23, 2005 – Red Gate Software has released a new version of ANTS Profiler that makes developers even more productive in optimizing the performance of VS.NET 2005 applications.

ANTS Profiler measures the execution time and usage of each line of code in an application or service, allowing developers to quickly and easily pinpoint performance bottlenecks. Memory profiling allows users to compare snapshots of memory usage to help identify memory leaks.

ANTS Profiler 2.5 enhances the performance of applications written in any of the languages supported by .NET Framework 2.0 or earlier. For web developers, ANTS Profiler now supports all versions of ASP.NET. Users can also profile performance for Windows services written in C#, VB.NET or managed C++ using any version of VS.NET, including those that host the Common Language Runtime.

ANTS Profiler 2.5 is even faster than version 2.0, profiling data from two million lines of source code in one second.

“ANTS Profiler takes the guesswork out of optimizing code,” says Simon Galbraith, Red Gate’s marketing director. “Developers can find code bottlenecks in minutes that would have taken them hours or even days using other methods.”

Beta-testers have commented not just on the speed and simplicity of ANTS Profiler 2.5, but also its flexibility, ability to handle very large applications, and comprehensive feature set.

Ed Lorenz, a software architect at EDS, tried ANTS Profiler recently for the first time and was quickly convinced of its utility.

“I have tried other profilers that are available for .NET, but none of them compare to ANTS Profiler,” says Lorenz. “We have a very large ASP.NET VB and C# portal application with thousands of classes and pages, so profiling the application is no small effort. Within minutes of downloading the trial software, I was analyzing my ASP.NET application. I profiled our applications for about 15 minutes, capturing data for more than 1,900 methods without any problems.”

“ANTS Profiler should be an essential part of every .NET developers tool belt,” says Jeff Pek, a software engineer for Autodesk, the world’s leading CAD software company. “It has saved our teams countless hours of fumbling around in the dark, chasing performance and capacity problems. Its ability to handle web applications, along with other project types, is especially nice.”

Other significant new features in ANTS Profiler 2.5 include:
• display of object values in the memory profiler, making it easier to associate and track profiled objects with code;
• display of embedded fields and field names along with their values;
• profiling of the interop layer between managed and unmanaged code, providing accurate results when profiling applications that use native COM components;
• profiling of generics, anonymous methods, and precompiled iterators;
• support for all versions of ASP.NET, including multiple IP addresses and different ports and host header names.

ANTS Profiler 2.5 is available for $295. A free, fully functional trial version can be downloaded from the Red Gate web site (www.red-gate.com).
