Hi,

just tried documenting our HR database and SQL Doc crashed in the documenting stage with an Out of memory exception.

Any requests on log files to track issue?

SQL Doc 2.0.0.733
Windows Vista Client
SQL 2005 Standard 64bit sp2 server
<2GB database and only scripting views and programmability
output chosen was .doc

Thank you for your post and apologies you are having issues with SQL Doc.
Could you kindly let us know if trying the output in html format gives the same error?

    Thanks for the update.

Could you kindly send us the log files for the error from the path:
    C:\Documents and Settings\<User name>\Local Settings\Application Data\Red Gate\Logs\SQL Doc 2?

That will help us to investigate further.

    Hi Anu

I am sorry to say that I cant send you the requested file.

In the C:\Documents and Settings\allenj\Local Settings\Application Data\Red Gate\Logs folder I only have a folder called "SQL Response 1", there is no "SQL Docs 2" folder.

There is no folder by that name one level up either, there are however SQL Backup, SQL Compare, SQL Data Compare 7, SQL Dependency Viewer 2.0, SQL Prompt 3, SQL Prompt 4, SQL Refactor and SQL Response Client.

The only file on my PC with the name "SQL Doc 2" is the shortcut in C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Red Gate

    regards

    Hello Jonathan

    Thanks for the update.

Ideally the file must exist on your machine.

Could you check if SQL Doc is installed on another drive?

As you should also have another folder named SQL Doc under program files where the actual application exists.

Can you kindly chekc th path of installation and also serach for log files?
with format SQL Doc 2-YYYY_MM_DD_HH_MM_SS_0 for eg. SQL Doc 2-2009_06_08_14_14_07_0 .

    Thanks.

    Hi Jonathan

I just wanted to update this post for any other users experiencing an out of memory exception with SQL Doc when generating the documentation in Word format. This is a known issue with one of the third party components we use to generate the documentation with no suggestion as to when it might be fixed. It is logged in our tracking system with reference SDOC-1402. A possible workaround would be to generate individual documentation for each database. Alternatively, use HTML which does not exhibit the same behaviour.
