SQL Automation refresh slow

We have insanely slow SQL Automation refresh on our projects. Colleague found out that workaround is to create shadow DB on local with empty copies of linked DBs, because apparantely there is some check that calls linked databases and those are huge so it takes time. However this is not option for every of our DBs because some of them has that many sources that it can not be simulated on local pc. Please can this be handled in project settings somehow?

Can I ask where you're experiencing this issue? 

Is this during local development in either SSMS/VS?
