Why do Snippets have a GUID at the end of its name.?

The New JSON snippets have a GUID in its name and its really difficult while we are working at different teams and wanted to merge the Snippets across the Teams. It leads to Duplication of Snippets and getting it difficult to Compare the Snippets as well...

Prompt requires the GUID to be there as if there is a duplicate it can cause serious issues. It is on the roadmap to handle this better when working within a team https://www.red-gate.com/products/sql-development/sql-prompt/roadmap

Are you currently copying them between machines or is there a central repository?
  • Yes, Its really being an issue with merging with Central Repo. And Even though, If someone wants to work on improving the snippets, We are having multiple Files for the same snippet. And the Toughest part is Its a JSON format and makes it very hard to compare the files for the Snippet Content....

It's required on the filename as you can have multiple snippets/styles with the same name, but Windows doesn't support this. The GUID is added so the file names are unique. Unfortunately they are required. The team are looking at ways to make sharing snippets easier and it is on the roadmap, but there is not currently an ETA
