Is SQL Search needing to be reinstalled following a SSMS upgrade expected behavior?

Hello all,
I have introduced Third Party Patching at my organization. I was informed today by one of my architects that their SQL Search was missing following an upgrade to SSMS 15.0.18358.0. I can confirm from my vendor that the patch itself is not taking any other additional actions other than updating the software.
I would rather not exclude SSMS from patching as we have many instances of the software in the environment. Are there any recommendations if this behavior is to be expected? I do not want my customers to have to potentially reinstall SQL Search each month during normal patching. In a bit of a tough spot on this one.
Thanks!
