SQL Clone in Windows Container. Is it possible?

Hi. We are looking into setting up SQL Clone in Docker containers. Setting up the Clone Agent is not a problem but when we try and create a clone we get an error: "A virtual disk support provider for the specified file was not found (Win32Exception)".

Are we doing something wrong or is this type of setup impossible at the moment? I have read the discussion on Linux containers but want to know for sure about Windows containers as well.

  • Hi Nordin,

SQL Clone doesn't currently support clones inside containers, but this something we're actively working on. I'd be very interested in speaking to you about this and gathering your requirements. If you would be available for a call over Zoom/Skype/Teams please drop me an email at james.murtagh@red-gate.com and I will arrange.

    Thanks,

Has this been addressed yet?  I am looking to use SQL Clone to virtualize our databases into containers so developers can spawn working copies and our automated process can spawn containers for testing.  We use a different tool for this presently but would like to see if SQL Clone is an option.
  • Hi, we now support this with a new product, Redgate Clone. You can learn more here: www.red-gate.com/products/redgate-clone or I'd be very happy to arrange a demo. Please let me know.
