Copying Clone Files

Hi,

We have run out of space on the disk that stored our clone files on our Azure VM. We have a new, larger disk ready to go. I want to copy the clone folders to this new disk, drop the old disk and rename the new disk to the old drive letter. I assumed this would work fine, as SQLCLone would still find the clone files at the same path but it's more complex than I assumed. Is this the way I should do this? (I can't drop the clones at this point)

Dan.

  • Hi Dan,

This is not something we support at the moment, unfortunately. It's mainly because we don't recommend you try to "maintain" clones and instead treat them as ephemeral. The best way to do it will be to drop the clone database and recreate it into the new location.
    Kind regards

Thanks for coming back to me, I understand the SQLClone ethos but needs must on occasion. I managed to find a tool that allowed the copying of the physical clone files mantainign the Windows Junction information and it all seems to have worked.
