Does SQL Clone work with backups from Azure Backup

I'm looking to see if anyone is currently using SQL Clone with SQL Server 2019 backups taken with Azure Backup.  These are the backups using the integrated backup policies with SQL Server 2019 VMs which are stored in Azure Recovery Vault.

We've determined that these files should be able to be retrieved using the Restore as Files option (https://azure.microsoft.com/en-us/blog/azure-backup-support-for-sql-server-2019-and-restore-as-files/), but there isn't anything obvious from there to indicate a manner to automate the process.

Just curious if Red Gate was developed a solution?  Or has implemented anything that may help in this.

  • I think it would work as they seem normal .bak files but you would need to download the files to use them.
We don't have any sort of integration that would download the backup files for you or read them from Azure.
