Why can't I connect to my SQL Server from my hotel room

Whenever I travel I can't connect to my SQL server from my hotel room or coffee shops from SSMS, or any Redgate products. As soon as I go to my office everything works.
Using SMSS I get the message:
provider: Named Pipes Provider, error:40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server Microsoft SQL Server: 1326
Redgate fails with the same error message. I have verified that named pipes is on in SQL Server and have also tried TCP/IP but nothing works.
Could it be that hotels and coffee shops are blocking something like port 1433? I am in a desperate situation that I need to fix today but can't get to my office for five days!
