Proper place for product feedback

I always thought that this forum was intended (a.o.) as a means to
collect product feedback from your users (and even from non-users with
an interest in your products).
Two weeks ago I opened a topic on the SQL Prompt forum. About a week later I received a private message from a RG employee with the request to open a support ticket if I have a support contract, or to mail the Sales team if I don't.
So now I am wondering, is there a change in policy and is this forum no longer intended to be a location where I can submit suggestions for future improvements? Or is this message I received caused by internal unclarity on what the proper channels are.
