Has anyone else been experiencing severe performance issues with SQL Source Control & SSMS?

It seems for the past month I have encountered, almost on a daily basis, instances where SSMS has slowed down to a halt. Sometimes it also crashes and it tries to send an error report to Redgate. The only thing I can point to is SQL source control as it's trying to fetch the latest changes from a database. I've noticed performance issues when opening SQL test too.

In addition, I also get frequent out of memory exceptions in SSMS when running queries, and I'm wondering if it could be redgate related. When this happens, I noticed that often I'm not even running an expensive query. It just seems to happen after I have been running SSMS for some time, and then I have to restart SSMS.

SSMS 2017
SQL Server 2014
SQL Source Control 6.0.2.6908
SQL Test 2.0.1.261

  • Hi @kakins-tamus

Sorry to hear you are having this issue.

Can you upgrade to the latest version and test again?

Here are few things you can try:
    1- Check this page
2- Try unceck the last two options:

I have been experiencing these same issues ... and when I try to click Options I get a "not set to the instance of an object" error.  I have Reported the Issue.  I am on the most recent version.  Is there anything else I can try?

Also, I have tried making ssms Large Address Aware but that has not helped.  I am on 64 bit Windows.

I am setting up the trial version and having a rough time with source control. I was able to successfully link my database to our TFS, but havent been able to even begin testing source control because my SSMS crashes everytime i pull up the commit page. I am not receiving a Sustem. OutOfMemoryException  error.

I used RedGate Source control at a previous job with GIT and had no issues.
