the normal amount of space per tab

I might just be haveing one of those days but I can't seem to find the correct amount of space or a tab. i thought it was 4 spaces equals a tab ( was trying to set this up in my opions) but it still does not look right. anyone know?

That's a tricky question as there isn't really a correct amount of spaces for a tab stop. It all depends on the editor that you're using and the platform that you're on. Generally the most common are 4, 5 and 8 (UNIX standard).
