Backup MS SQL Database to Azure with RedGate

Hello,

Is it possible to backup MS SQL database directly to MS Azure with RedGate? I searched around and could not find any info on that.

Hi, thank you for your forum post.

Have I understood the question correctly that you wish to back up a local on-premise database to a network share on located on MS Azure? If the answer is no, please reply with further information.

If the answer is yes, personally I am inclined to say no for performance reasons. A backup directly to a network share has a bigger overhead compared to backing up to a local disk and then copying the backup file to a network share.

In theory it maybe possible providing the account given to the SQL Backup Agent service has security permissions to the share located on Azure. It has never been tested and there certainly are no plans to test such a configuration to my knowledge.

I guess, I would need to backup the database locally first, then copy it to Azure. Thank you Eddie.
