SQL Source control 5 TFS 2017 using SSL only

We recently migrated to TFS 2017 and due to security requirements have the TFS server set to SSL only. when we attempt to unlink and re-link the database to the new source control URL we receive an error "TF400324 : Team Foundation Services are not available server "
I have looked trough the documentation but do not know if this is even supported. we are currently on version 5.8.3.6733
any help is appreciated

You should be able to workaround that issue by:
- Following the instructions on How to connect without using Team Explorer on http://documentation.red-gate.com/display/SOC5/The+Team+Foundation+Server+for+this+workspace+does+not+support+one+or+more+of+the+checkin+options+you+have+selected
- Running Visual Studio 2015 on the system where you are using SQL Source Control (you can install it side by side with other versions of VS)
