SSMS 17.1 SSC 5.6.1 TFS Error when trying to check-in: policy not found or configured

Trying to check-in to tfs and get the't+meet+the+server's+policy+requirements,+or+the+policy+isn't+configured+on+your+machine error. This article describes configuring the registry for 2012 but I don't see how this applies now I'm using SSMS 2017. I have VS2017 installed and the path for the the dll dexribed in the article is C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio\2017\Professional\Common7\IDE\CommonExtensions\Microsoft\TeamFoundation\Team Explorer but there is no 11.0 registry key. What to do?
