Activity History tab blank?

Hi All,

I have my full backups, and log backups scheduled with RedGate SQL Backup 7 (latest version).

The jobs tab shows the last run outcome, but if I want to look further back I would think I should see a history in the "Activity History" tab - but nothing is listed there at all - completely blank.

I can go to the server in SQL Enterprise Manager and see the history there, but I'm hoping I could see the backup history in the RedGate software somewhere as well....? What am I doing wrong?

Thanks!

    Hi dstoltz,

Thanks for your post and sorry for the issue you are having with activity history.

This can happen when you have lads of history build up over some time.

You can get the activity history to load faster by reducing the amount of data in the activity cache.

From the Tools menu select Server Options, and on the File Management tab use the Delete all backup and restore history option to limit the backup and restore history stored in the msdb database and SQL Server Compact database. The activity cache is populated from these locations each time you start the GUI.

If the msdb database and Compact database contain a large amount of history, it may take some time to reduce the existing history when the setting is first applied.

Having excessive backup and restore history affect the time to populate the activity history because the more history you retain the more data has to be loaded into the activity history.
