SQL Log Backup of MSDB is hung.

I have noticed the log backup for the msdb backup had not executed in several days. I attempted to restart it by re-starting the SQL Server Agent
but it just creates another process, without completing.

There are several processes with the application SQBCoreService.exe with Task State is Suspended and Wait Type is LCK_M_U in the Processes section of the Activity Monitor.

How do I stop these processes gracefully without effecting the msdb database?

Any help will be appreciated.

  • I was able to resolve this myself.

After doing some additional research I found some information that said when a Redgate job get hung was to stop and start the SQL Backup Agent.

Once I had stop and started to agent, the jobs hung in the a Suspended state dropped and were removed the In Progress tab in the GUI.

You would think that moderators of this forum would have been able to point me in this direction. I guess they really aren't there to assist anyone.
