Permissions required to view permissions in 2008

I am comparing databases on a 2005 and 2008 server. My login is a member of Public role on the server and I am dbo on the database. When scanning the 2008 database, SQL Compare 7 stops on "Server.Database-Reading Permissions" and the info message at the bottom of the dialog says that "The user does not have permission to perform this action."

What additional permissions do I require?

I am getting the same error comparing two SQL Server 2008 databases. If I connect as a sysadmin, everything is OK. If I connect as a db_owner, I get the Reading permissions error.

I need to compare to a SS2K8 hosted database where I cannot be a sysadmin.

    Thanks,

    Dennis
  • I received an e-mail from Red Gate support today:

"We have found that the problem is caused by the compare engine trying to get transparent database encryption information which is only accessible for users with the VIEW SERVER STATE permission on the server.

A fix will be in the next version will populate the information only if it has permissions, rather than failing outright."
