Did you know SqlPrompt is a great way to view encrypted stored procedures?

For instance, I am unable to use sp_helptext, syscomments or SqlServer Management Studio to view encrypted stored procedures, but if I hover using SqlPrompt I can see the procedure text.

It's not an area I know a great deal about (the only encrypted SPs I've got lying around are Microsoft CMS), but it seems odd SqlPrompt can be used like this.

I've found it very useful, just wondering if it's a feature or...

  • SQL Compare can only look at encrypted SQL 2000 databases. Unfortunately (or fortunately depending who you are) Microsoft tightened the encryption with SQL 2005, so I would imagine therefore you are looking at SQL 2000 stored procedures.
