Can't connect to 2005 named instances

I am using 6.2.0.271, Standard Edition.
I can compare SQL Server 2000 databases with no problems, but I cannot compare SQL Server 2005 databases. I get the lovely '...does not allow remote connections...' error when I try to create my connection to a live database. Our servers do allow remote connections, they work just fine in Management Studio and other tools.
