SQL Compare install failure

Just purchased a license for SQL Compare Professional recently and followed the download instructions to obtain the installer. However, every time I run the installer (and I've tried multiple times), I get the following:

sqltoolbeltinstallfailutn5.th.png

Edit: To clarify, I've downloaded this twice in total and also used a copy of the SQLToolbox.exe that a co-worker had downloaded months ago for his install. This has happened with each of those copies, so it's unlikely to be a corrupted download file.

I did previously install this for an eval, but subsequently uninstalled it before I was told they'd be buying me a SQL Compare license.

  • When you run the Toolbelt installer we should create a temporary installation folder. Could you run the installer again and when it errors, leave the installer open and go to C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Local Settings\Temp\Red GateThis should contain folders with GUIDs for names. Could you look in these folders and find any log files that might contain the exception information?

Also could you look in the Windows Event logs to see if there's any additional error information? If you do find this information could you send it to support@red-gate.com and we'll have a look into it.

I saw that folder after the error but before closing the installer, but it contained no files or folders. It was totally empty. I closed the installer window, deleted the folder, and repeated this. Same result, no files or folders there, though the "Red Gate" folder was itself re-created.

Sadly, I don't see any related events in the Event Viewer. (That is, no messages within hours of me running the installer.)
