I notice in the Announcement "SQL Log Rescue 1.2 released," Mr. Mellors mentions that, "live log retrieval is now optional."

I am having difficulty finding information about this in the Help File, and was wondering if anyone could tell me:
  • How to skip live log retrieval, and
  • The originally intended use for this feature
Any information would be appreciated.

Thank you.

    Hi,

Yes, I think it's time for us to document this hidden feature. It's enabled by a registry key:
To disable live log retrieval, create a registry entry named "Retrieve live log" and set its DWORD value to zero. Note that clicking the refresh button on the SLR GUI will still retrieve the live log even if the registry value is set to zero - it just won't retrieve the live log by default when you finish the project wizard.
Disabling live log retrieval is useful when the server is in a state that is causing SQL Log Rescue to hang or timeout because either the log file is damaged or transactions are hung. When live log retrieval is disabled, Log Rescue gets the transactions from any supplied transaction log backups instead.
