Determining in bkup script whether to do differential or ful

We are setting up a new backup schedule. All the databases in this case
will be in Full recovery mode. We have SQL Server 2005 and Red Gate SQL
Backup.
We want to do a full backup every week, a differential every day and a trans
log backup 15 minutes.
However, if the "script" determines that it's better in terms of size and
speed to do a full backup instead of a differential, we want it to go ahead
and do a full backup.
Is this even possible? I have no idea how to have it check what the size of
a diff bkup would be before it actually creates them.
Any ideas, samples gratefully appreciated,
