Feature request: being able to package a set of SQL scripts

Folks,

While I *love* the features of SQL Packager to package an entire DB or upgrades between one DB version and the next, it would be extremely helpful too at times to be able to just specify a directory full of *.sql scripts and package those up into an executable.

Just run a single EXE instead of having to open, syntax-check, and then run 20, 30 or 40 scripts manually in Management Studio......

Any chance that might be included in SQL Packager 6.0 ? Or even 5.4?? :-)

    Hi,

Maybe this isn't so far off. SQL Compare version 6 can construct an entire schema from a collection of SQL Scripts, so it shouldn't be too hard to get Packager to do that at some date.

I can't say if there is any functionality like this on the horizon for data, though.
  • Brian,

Please provide an update concerning the ability to upgrade the database using a collection of SQL Scripts.

    Thank you,

  • Hello,

Packager is still based on v5 of the SQL tools libraries. As far as I know there is nothing on the cards about upgrading it at this time.
