Required files for using the command line tools

In the help topic "Integrating Command Line Tools With Applications", it specifies several files that I need to include to use SQL Comare on the command line. I don't seem to be able to find all of these files. The following are missing:

* RedGate.CommandLine.BuildInfo.dll
* RedGate.SQLCompare.Distribution.dll
* RedGate.SQLCompare.Distribution.mod

Is this old documentation for version 3? Is so, can you post an updated list for version 5.x?

Thanks,
Ben

    Hi Ben,

    These files are only created after you have successfully activated SQLCOMPARE.exe. You can activate it by running SQLCompare with enough arguments to get it to connect to and register a database (in other words, running SQLCOMPARE /? will not give you the opportunity to activate it!).

    Once you have entered your serial number and recieved an activation response, the distribution files will be created in your Red Gate SQL Bundle 5 folder.
  • Hi Brian,

    The 2 distribution files were created like you said, but I'm still missing RedGate.CommandLine.BuildInfo.dll.

    However, everything seems to work. Is RedGate.CommandLine.BuildInfo.dll actually needed anymore?

    Thanks,
    Ben

    Hi Ben,

    Here is the complete list (according to the help file, anyway...)
    SQLCompare.exe
    RedGate.CommandLine.BuildInfo.dll
    RedGate.CommandLine.Common.dll
    RedGate.SQLCompare.Distribution.dll*
    RedGate.SQLCompare.Distribution.mod*
    RedGate.SQL.Shared.dll
    RedGate.SQLCompare.Engine.dll
    RedGate.SQLCompare.CommandLine.dll
    SQLCompare.exe.config
  • I got everything but the RedGate.CommandLine.BuildInfo.dll file.

    As I say, it seems to work at this point.

    Could you confirm whether this is a mistake inthe help or I really should have that file?

    Thanks,
    Ben
  • Hi Ben,
    The file "RedGate.CommandLine.BuildInfo.dll" is no longer distributed. It's not needed and should not be mentioned in the online help.
    Hope this clarifies the situation.
    best regards

  • Thanks David. I wanted to make sure before I move our command line sync jobs to version 5.
