I cannot see RegisterForDataCompare as a code completion option (Visual Studio .NET 2003) for a database object, although when I type it in manually, my code compiles. Is this a known problem?

Yes this is a known issue. The upcoming release of SQL Bundle will have the RegisterForDataCompare method browseable.
