Clock Skew alert issue

Hi,

We have a physical server that keeps alerting (1 or 2 times a day) to having clock skew. The clock skew reported is often specifically 316 or 396 seconds. The base monitor is also a physical server. When I check the clocks on the servers they may be out by a second or two but never by 300+ seconds...

Any possible suggestions?

Andy.

  • What is likely to be happening is that the clocks are 'skewing' by the reported margin when the machine is under high load or some other intensive process. The generated alerts will then be marked as Ended once the clocks are back to being in sync. I believe that there is a margin of ± a few seconds which explains why you are still seeing a difference of a few seconds.
  • Will cross reference the clock skew alert times with the performance on the server and see if there is any correlation.
