Why 2 products instead of 1?

I have been using SQL Compare and SQL Data Compare for about 2 years. Hands down, it is very stable and does what it needs to do.

However, I am very annoyed that to compare my databases I need to switch between two products. Schema and Data comparisons are so tightly integrated I find it hard to believe that a product would be developed that did not do both. I have been reviewing similar products and did not find another that split these two tasks into seperate programs.

Is there any plans to merge these SQL Compare and SQL Data Compare? If so, when and if not, why?

    Hello,

There are no immediate plans to integrate the two. SQL Packager sort of merges schema and data comparisons, but it doesn't report on what those differences actually are.

SQL Compare and Data Compare were developed at two different times to solve two different problems, which is probably they are still separated. That's not to say that we wouldn't merge the two together at some point.

    Thanks for the suggestion.
