Job Duration alert issue

Maybe I'm missing something but this looks like a bug to me.

We are getting alerts on jobs that should not be flagged.

The alert is configured as follows:

Raise this alert when a job duration deviates from its baseline duration by more than:
High 70%
Medium % (not selected)
Low % (not selected)

Ignore if the job run time is less than 30 seconds

An example alert we received is :

Job started at: 11 Nov 2010 3:00 AM
Job ended at: 11 Nov 2010 3:01 AM
Job outcome: Succeeded
Duration: 00:01:00
Baseline duration (median of last 10 runs): 00:00:54
Deviation from baseline: 10%

  • Hi,

    Apologies for the issue.

Is the alert is in active or ended state?

The way this alert works is that, the alert gets raised when the job duration is above x% (as per your configuartion). It then remains active, when the next job run happens then it does all the calculation again and then the details updated and eventually the alert gets marked as ended when the deviation is below x%.

So if the alert is ended then deviation is not the deviation which raised the alert. I understand that this can be confusing. We are fixing this as priority in 2.1. We will try to retain the deviation which raised the alert rather than updating it.

Is this what you are seeing?

  • Yes it is in 'Ended' status.

The confusion is that none of the stats listed in the alert correspond to an occurrence that should have raised the alert. The start and end time as well as the duration are all for the job run following the the one that raised the alert.
  • Thanks for confirming.

I agree with your feedback. We are improving this alert as priority in 2.1.
