SQL BAckup Log Files not getting deleted

Hi
I have a problem with our sql backup config that exists on our cluster.
running version 6.4.0.56
I go and set the Server Options (from the GUI, right click on the server and select Options.) Then under file management I check "Delete log files in this folder" and set a value of say 14 days and also check the "Delete log files in LOGTO folders"
I then click OK and hopefully that should be that. but if I then go back to the options tab, all my changes have been undone and the delete options are left unchecked.
This is a problem as I happen to look at the log folder for one of my instances and there were over 150,000 log files in there.
I did check the registry and the permissions for that tree seem fine.
any ideas?
