Update to SQL Test 1.7.4 not working. Why wont it install?

I tried to update SQL Test to 1.7.4, but it keeps telling me it can't be installed at the moment. I have all SSMS and Visual Studio instances closed, but still wont let me install. Is there something blocking it from installing?

    Update: There was a policy on the machine which was blocking any .exe from launching .msi files. @Nick O was able to disable this temporarily to allow the install to go through.

    Hi @Nick O,

    Sorry to hear that you're experiencing this problem. If you uninstall version 1.7.3 first and then try the 1.7.4 installer again, does it let you install?

    No the install still didn't work after uninstall and running the install, but I was able to install it by redownloading the developer bundle.

    That's really odd- the error is "This installation is forbidden by system policy. Contact your system administrator."

    Does it make any difference if you launch SSMS as administrator?

    If you manually download and run the installer from here, does it have the same problem? (or the one for SQL Prompt here)?

    Looks like the issue is the files the update downloads go to the temp folder under my user account. Our IT department has a policy that executable cannot run from either that temp folder or the download folder. Is there any way to download these files to a different directory or give us the option to download them to a different directory?

    You can change the location where update installers are stored to by creating an RGTEMP environment variable:

    1. On the Start menu, right-click Computer and select Properties.
    2. In the Advanced tab, click Environment Variables.
    3. Click New.
    4. In the Variable name field, type: RGTEMP
    5. In the Variable value field, type the new location, i.e: F:\RGtemp
    6. Click OK.
    7. Close Management Studio and standalone Red Gate tools.
    8. Log out of Windows and log in again.

    (Note: all Redgate tools will store temporary files in this location)

    @Jessica R, I still get the error. I set the RGTEMP under my user variables. Is there a newer install I should try? I do see files in that temp folder for SQL Source Control and SQL Search, but nothing else.

    Sorry to hear that!

    The tools should save the update installers to a "CFU" folder in the RGTemp location.

    It would be helpful to get a Process Monitor trace to see where the update installers are saving to. I'll send you over some instructions to get this and an upload link shortly.
