Error when trying to compare using PPTP VPN

Hi Dan,

Thanks for your question. Data Compare uses distributed queries to get
the data from your servers, so even though you can see both servers and the
objects on the servers, Data Compare may still give you this error, because
it's unable to set up a linked server on one of your servers. You may need
to be a SYSADMIN or SECURITYADMIN.

I'd try using the Advanced button to change the server that the
databases will be accessed from to one that you have sufficient rights to
create a linked server on.

    Hi,

    By the way, the latest version of SQL Data Compare (3.0) doesn't suffer
    from this as it's written in .Net and doesn't use linked servers any more.
