Comparing 2000 and 2005

I've tried to compare between those two servers. I didnt get any tables to compare and I do have PK on them. Can I compare tables between 2000 and 2005 or not ?

  • Forgot to mention that SQL Compare works.
  • MC,

Yes you should be able to compare between tables in 2000 and 2005 databases as long as you have an unique index or primary key on both tables. So we can get to the bottom of your problem are you able to provide us with the schema of the two databases you are comparing?

    Many thanks

  • Sorry guys, I managed to put the table on the 2005 part on the named schema instead of the default schema. I assume that would be the reason for not being able to compare?

As long as I'm on the subject, does it mean that the owner name is considered equivalent to the schema name?

  • Yes that would be the reason, SQL Data Compare cannot currently compare tables in different schema. You are also correct in saying that schemas are now object owners rather than the user.
