active\passive

1. After installing GUI on active node, and server components on both - do I need to faill over the instance to the passive node to install the GUI there?

2. Shouldn't I be able to use the GUI to access the instance no matter which node it resides on?

What I'm trying to do is install GUI and server components on both nodes without failing over the instance.

  • Hi

you dont need to fail over. Firstly its generally not a good practice to install client tools on the servers. Install SSMS and BIDS and SQL Backup client on your pc and manage the servers from there. SQL Backup, like SQL Server, is a clustered service and will be available for connection regardless of the node it is active on, just check the service is started.

SQL_GUY is right. The GUI can be installed on any workstation to manage your SQL Backup services. The GUI does not need a license to run.
