VDI Error 1000: Failed to create virtual device

I want to restore a transaction log to another server and I get this error when i run the command through the command line.
VDI Error 1000: Failed to create virtual device. Check that the Sql Server instance you are trying to connect to is running. Error Code: -2139684857
( Failed to recognise the SQL SERVER instance name)
I get the same error if I try it through the GUI.
My version is 3.2.0.1

This sounds like a problem with permissions on the all users profile directory.
Can you check that the rights to this directory have not been changed and the user performing the backup has sufficient permissions?
