PLans for DTS-compare?

Hi Fred,

The future of DTS Compare depends on how many people continue to use it
after SQL Server 'Yukon' comes out, to be perfectly honest. From what
Microsoft has said publicly, DTS doesn't have much of a future, as they're
going to .Net assemblies rather than DTS scripts and ActiveX Objects.

    Hi Fred,

Thanks for your comments. DTS Compare is now back in active development and whilst I can't go into specifics about exactly what it will do I can say that it will work much better than it currently does in terms of performance, memory utilisation, and usability.

It looks like SQL Server 2005 will incorporate DTS, although under a different name (Integration Services?) which I believe we might be supporting at some point, although this is obviously some way off.

At the moment we're just in the early stages of deciding what to do and putting together a development team for the product so I really can't be very specific about anything as I said above. However, if you have any additional feedback, questions, feature requests or other comments please feel free to contact me at bartdotreadatredhyphengatedotcom.

    Many thanks,

  • Im currently struggling with Sync and deployment of dts packages. across distributed servers

What would be great is if a sync fails and a new version is required we can deploy the new version demoting the old version into the existing package version/history.

Im getting version numbering using a static global variable in the dts package itself.

    Hello Colin,

The next version of DTS Compare should allow for comparing multiple versions of packages rather than only the current version available on the server. If I understand you correctly, this should help you out a bit.
