SQL Prompt 3.9 dirty uninstall in Management Studio 9

Installed trial SQL Prompt 3.9 within SQL Toolbelt installer and trial period expired, so uninstalled. However, after uninstall and reboot there are pauses in the query text window *as if* SQL Prompt is still trying to find auto-complete candidates as well as serious lags in simple edits.

No sign of prompt in the tools-customize or external tools.
Have licensed copy of SQL Compare installed.
SQL Server Management Studio 9.00.3042.00

Would like steps for manual uninstall and verification, please.

Thank you for your post into the forum.

To Uninstall SQL Prompt follow these steps:

    1. Right-click the SQL Prompt 3 icon in the system tray area and click Exit.
    2. Use the Windows® Add or Remove Programs tool to remove SQL Prompt.
    3. In SQL Server Management Studio, to remove the SQL Prompt menu from the toolbar, do the following:
On the Tools menu, click Customize.
Drag the SQL Prompt menu from the menu bar, or right-click the SQL Prompt menu and click Delete.
    Close the Customize dialog box.

    Many Thanks

    Hello,

If SQL Prompt is not listed under Add/Remove programs it means that the application has uninstalled successfully and there is no specific manual uninstall method beyond that.
Do you have any other thrid-party plug-ins installed on your system or in Management studio?

    Thanks,

    Hello,

Can you try to go down to your install directory (Program Files - Red Gate - SQL Prompt) and check if any Prompt dll's are present in the directory at all?

    Thanks,

  • There are no other plugins installed for Management Studio.
SQL Prompt was the only plugin ever added from clean install.
Have checked for SQL Prompt DLLs and there are none in the Program files->Red Gate directory.
  • Hello,

When SQL Prompt dlls are removed from the Red Gate directory it is unlikely for SQL Prompt to affect the editor anymore.

If the problem still continues to happen it probably might be a good idea to reinstall your editor?
    I hope that helps.

    Thanks,
