Difficulties with all products on VS 2008 and Win XP x64

I am posting this here since I was sent the 3.7 install to try to
resolve the SQL Prompt installation issue related to VS 2008.

Unfortunately, I am finding that ALL products in the toolbelt are failing
when I try to start them.....SQL Compare, SQL Data Compare.....all of them.

How do I determine what the problem is? Do you not support Windows XP x64? I have not run into any problems with other Visual Studio add-ins.

  • Hi there,

I'm sorry that you've run into such a nasty problem. All the tools are meant to work on XP x64. It sounds like something went wrong during the installation. What errors are you getting when you try running the tools?

    So sorry,

  • Someone kindly called me yesterday to discuss. She is testing to determine if she can reproduce.

I am suspicious of SQL prompt 3.7 causing the issue somehow. I plan to remove all products, then install all except SQL Prompt. The test the other products.

    I will post my results.

    Thanks for your reply.
  • One issue with uninstallation.

The SQL Refactor and SQL Prompt Menus still appear in SQL Server Management Tool.......greyed out.

How can these be removed to insure they are completely gone before I reinstall the other products?
  • Hi Scott,

We did check installing the products from the toolbelt installer on a x64 Win XP machine (with VS 2008) followed by Prompt 3.7 installation and it all seems to work very well. So trying to do a fresh install might actually resolve the problems for you.
Please follow the instructions listed in the link below to remove the menus.

Thank you ver much for your patience and please do let us know if this fixed your problems.

  • I had time to reinstall the products......but I did not install
SQL Prompt or SQL Refactor. They still appear grey in the
SQL Server management Studio....and cannot be removed by the
process in the link. They do not appear on Tools/Customize.

After installing the remaining products I tested SQL Compare and
SQL Doc standalone. They worked fine.

When I launch SQL Compare from within SQL Server Management Studio
from the Tools Menu, the SQL Compare splash screen appears, then
    there is an error dialog.

    The event viewer shows:

    .NET Runtime 2.0 Error

    Faulting application redgate,sqlcompare.ui.exe 6.2.0.271, stamp
471df775, faulting module unknown, version 0.0.0.0, stamp 00000000,
    debug? 0, fault address 0x026321cb

I will stop installation of the other products until I hear from you on the above.
