Can SQL Backup mount a native backup as a virtual database

Looking to define a process to mount seveal native SQL backups and extract a few tables in an automated process. Is this something that can be done with the SQL Backup tool?

If not does Red Gate offer another product that will allow us to mount the native backups or extract the objects from the native backups?

Hi 3xchaos, thank you for your forum post.

    To answer your questions:
Looking to define a process to mount seveal native SQL backups and extract a few tables in an automated process. Is this something that can be done with the SQL Backup tool?

The simple answer is no.  SQL Backup is simply an alternative to the native SQL Server backup process and it does not include any features that will allow a user to mount several native backup files.

If not does Red Gate offer another product that will allow us to mount the native backups or extract the objects from the native backups?

The closest product Redgate has to offer to possibly achieve your goal would be SQL Clone, further reading available here.  You can use your native backup files to create what is called a SQL Clone Image.  Once the image is created, you can then create the cloned database from which you can then use as a normal database and extract the information you are seeking.  Further reading on how SQL Clone works can be found in this help article.

    Many Thanks
