I am watching SQL Compare that is doing nothing jump to varying levels of CPU usage between 0 & 5% - constantly.

Why is it using ANY CPU when it's in the background not running anything?   The little bits of CPU usage from multiple programs add up.    Too many application do this.

Hi nhustak2, thank you for your forum post.

Without reviewing the log file, it is difficult to know what is causing the CPU usage.

A common process is the 'CheckForUpdates' to see if any new versions of the software are available.

If you enable the verbose logging as this help article and review the log file, it may provide the processes SQL Compare is running when idle.

    Many Thanks
    Eddie

I will get a verbose log.   I considered the check for updates option, but it would have to be firing every 10 seconds or so to produce the CPU usage.
