Refactor menu items disabled.

icemandiaicemandia Posts: 3
I installed SQL Refactor and it worked fine the first day, since then all the layout menu items are disabled - the "options" and the "help group" items are active on the same menu. I've tried uninstalling and re-installing, but still no luck, any suggestions on what to try?

Sorry about the bother! I found what seemed to be the issue - I had installed the "beta" version - after downloading the trial RTM, all menu items working fine now!

    Hi there,

I have (I thought) installed the latest 1.1 version.

The Lay Out SQL option had been working but now it is greyed out.

When I view Help - About it says I have version 1.1.0.97
But when I Check for updates, it says I have the latest version 1.10.2.0?

Using SQL Server Management Studio SP1 on Windows Server 2003 R2 SP1.

    malcolmt,

Build number 1.1.0.97 is the latest version. The difference in numbering is due to a querk in our numbering system that means version numbers for check for updates are out of step with the build number. Not very helpful I know.

The problem that you refer to is different from the disabling of the SQL Refactor menu, as in the previous case users were completely unable to display the menu at all, let alone access the about box.

Can you confirm that the layout option is disabled when you have a script file open? As we would expect it to be disabled when there are no script open. When you have scripts open are any of the other SQL Refactor options disabled, expand wildcards, qualify object name, etc?

    Jonathan,

    Thanks for your reply.

Yes, the "Lay Out SQL" option is disabled when a script is open.

Uppercase Keywords is present and works, as does Expand Wildcards, & Summarize Script.

They greyed out options are: Smart Rename, Split Table, Ecapsulate..... *** Layout SQL ***, & Qualify Object Names.

    Malcolm,

This is very odd… and not something we have seen before.

Have you had a previous version of SQL Refactor installed?

What version of SQL Server as you using?

Are you using SQL Refactor in licensed or trial mode?

Okay, the first thing to do is to try reseting the menus:

    1) In SSMS go to Tools > Customize and then right click on the SQL Refactor menu and deleting it
    2) Now shutdown SSMS
    3) Then go to the Windows Start Menu > Run
    4) Then execute the following comment "sqlwb /setup" without the quotes, this should reinitialise SSMS.

Let us know how you get on.

    Jonathan,

Just returned from my Easter break today.

Your solution has resolved the problem.

We would have originally installed v1.0 in trial mode.

Then upgraded to 1.1, with licence key applied.

    Using SQL 2005.

    Thanks for your help.
