Resources used on Backup File Copy to AWS S3 Storage

I am using SQL Backup Pro 9 to copy backup files to S3 when complete. Is there additional network activity involved if my primary backup files go to a network location?
I backup databases on Server A and the backup location is Network Share B. A copy of the file is uploaded to AWS S3 storage. I know there is network activity from Server A to the Network Share B, but where does the network activity originate for the upload to S3? Does it originate on Server A to the S3 bucket? Does it go from the Network Share B copy to S3? Or does the data stream come from Network Share B back Server A and then to S3?
