Migrating SQL Server databases to new 64-bit server

Hello!

We have SQL Backup license for our SQL Server 20005 32-bit server. We are getting ready to migrate databases to new SQL Server 2005 64-bit server. I was wondering if we can simply move license to the new box or we need to upgrade the license. In latter case, what is the proper process?

Thank you in advance,
Igor

    Hi there,
It would depend on your licenses... if you have professional licenses these will work on both 32-bit and 64-bit systems; if you only have lite licenses these will not work on 64-bit systems and would need to be upgraded to the professional edition.

To discuss upgrading and/or transferring your licenses, you would need to talk to our sales team at sales@red-gate.com , they will be able to walk you through the process.

    Hope that helps,
    Jason

    Jason,

Thanks for your reply. I inherited the system. Is there an easy way to determine whether this is professional or lite license of RedGate SQLBackup?

    Thanks,

In the UI, right click on the server in the treeview on the left, and select properties. At the bottom of the SQL Server section is "Edition", which is the edition of SQL Backup.

    Hope that helps,
    Jason
