Blocked SQL Process - configuration based on SQL keywords

Hi,

In a future release of SQL Response it would be good if "Blocked SQL process" alerts were configurable down to keywords within the SQL of the blocked and/or blocking process. Microsoft Reporting Services has a regular process that is blocked. The stored procedure CheckSessionLock is regularly blocked by WriteLockSession. Microsoft say this is expected behaviour http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/sqlreportingservices/thread/290aa503-03c2-415b-bc30-59422ccb3bb2.

I do not want to be alerted to these blocks but I do want to be alerted to all others.

I wasn't sure if this was already covered by the post http://www.red-gate.com/messageboard/viewtopic.php?t=8157&highlight=blocked+sql+process but thought it worth raising as for me (and probably anyone else running reporting services) the feature is not very usable at present with all its false alarms.

Thanks,
Simon

  • Hi Simon,

I believe it does relate to this issue, and have added your comments accordingly.

I also believe that this is on the cards for V2 of the product, which should be out later this year. If you would like to get involved with usability sessions for V2, and also put your ideas forward, you can e-mail thefutureofmonitoring(at)red-gate.com and you will be adedd to the list.
